As the first light of day touches this bull moose’s face, the Grand Teton becomes quietly visible in the background, a sentinel to the changing season. Feeding on restored sagebrush, the bull prepares for a long winter ahead by browsing nearly constantly. 

Settlers once cleared these fields for crops like oats and barley, but the native sagebrush-steppe habitats are slowly returning, shifting here from summer’s leafy greens to woody twigs and bark rising above the snow line. The moose’s thick, chocolate-brown coat absorbs sunlight, while specialized nasal passages warm the air they breathe. Long legs carry moose through deep snow in search of food. 

In this soft morning light, the moose embodies both internal and external fortitude as a living connection between a land’s history, restoration, and endurance.
